We all experience every day how president Donald Trump lies as fast as a horse can run. Over and over again – and without regard for reality.

Here are some of the latest examples:

 

Trump claim: The EU was formed to blackmail the USA!

Facts: The EU was established in the 1950s with very strong support from the Democratic President Truman and the Republican President Eisenhower. They wanted a stable and strong Europe.

And the EU with its large market has always been a great advantage for the USA.

 

Trump claim: The US has a very large trade deficit with Europe.

Facts: Trade between the EU and the US has doubled in the last ten years to €1.54 trillion. Of this, the US deficit in 2023 was €53 billion.

This is due to several things: Americans often prefer European goods to American ones. And even though Europe bought 12,3 billion € worth of agricultural goods from the US in 2023, there are still a number of products from American agriculture that we do not want to bring into Europe because they have been added with substances that are not legal in Europe.

 

Trump claim: The US has given Ukraine a total of $350 billion in aid! And Europe has only given $100 billion.

Facts: According to experts at the Kiel Institute of World Economy, the EU and its member states have provided $259 billion, while the United States has provided $125 billion.

In addition, there are the costs of the many millions of Ukrainian refugees who have been granted residence in European countries. In November 2023, there were 4.2 million Ukrainians. A large number have been granted residence in Poland and Germany.

 

Trump claims: Ukraine started the war in 2022!

Facts: It was Russia that attacked independent Ukraine. And it continues

to do so!

 

Trump claim: Zelensky is a dictator who only has the support of 4% of the population!

Facts: An opinion poll this month shows that 57% of the Ukrainian population supports him (up from 52%). And since there is a state of emergency in Ukraine due to the Russian attacks, elections cannot currently be held according to the Ukrainian constitution.

PS: Trump has now said that he does not mean to have said that Zelensky is a dictator.

CANADA - AND TRUMP's TARIFF WAR

  Canada's flag I just want to tell you that our Canadian friends in Toronto have told us that the fight in Canada against Trump and his tariffs is in full swing - and is becoming more and more active. A popular movement has been created called: ELBOWS UP! On April 28th there will be a general election in the country. The new Liberal Prime Minister, Mark Carney, (former head of the Bank of Canada AND also former head of the Bank of England in London) is up against the second largest party, the Conservatives. Before Trump, the Conservatives were leading by a large margin. Now it seems to be on the balance.. The Canadian Conservatives are a long way along the line with Trump on many issues.

GREENLAND - CRUCIAL NEGOTIATIONS TODAY

Today, the Danish and Greenlandic foreign ministers are to meet with the US vice president and secretary of state in Washington. The meeting is taking place at the Danish-Greenlandic request. Here, the Danish-Greenlandic side will be very open to even closer cooperation with the Americans on security and on the exploitation of minerals. But they will NOT accept any form of American takeover of Greenland. Out of the question! In this position, Denmark-Greenland has the full support of the EU, Canada, the Nordic countries, and indeed most of the world. At the same time, work is being done to get a multinational military force to Greenland - to better defend the Arctic. And several countries will establish consulates in Nuuk. Canada did so last week. France will open its next month. And there will probably be more.
