• Size: 2,166,00 km2  

                       (bigger than France, Germany, Spain, Great Britain, Italy,   

                       Greece, Switzerland and Belgium together)   

• Population: 56,000 (80% in 16 cities and 20% in 60 small

                       Villages.   Incl. 6.000 people from Denmark

• Expats: 17,000 in Denmark

• Language: Greenlandic (Inuit language) and partly Danish      

• National melody: Nunarput utoqqarsuanngoravit 

                               (meaning "Our very old country")

• Capital: Nuuk – 19,783 inhabitants ( 2023 )

• Currency: Danish kroner.

• GDP/per capita: DKK 361,000 (= €48,456)

• In the EU: Member with Denmark ) from 1973-85. 

                          Associate member since 1985 ( OCT ) 

• In NATO: Yes – via the Commonwealth of Nations with Denmark and the Faroe Islands

                     

• Defence: Arctic Commando – in Nuuk. Danish.

                      Pituffik Space Base in northern Greenland

                      (formerly Thule Air Force Base).  American.

                      The Danish government announced in December 2024

                      a very important strengthening of the defense around

                      Greenland (new ships, drones and more soldiers).

 

• Economy: €3.1 billion (in 2021).  Danish contribution: €764,000.

                     EU support: DKK 32 million € annually – 90% for education

• Borders: 44,000 km (sea borders only)

                      2,670 km from south to north; 1,050 km from east to west.

 

• King: Frederik 10 (since January 2024)  

• Parliament: 31 members – elected for 4 years. Latest election: April 2021

                              New elections called for March 11, 2025

• Government: Naalakkersiusut / National government –
